Immunotherapy as a modern approach to melanoma treatment

Melanoma is one of the most aggressive forms of skin cancer. However, advances in modern medicine are opening up new treatment options. One such breakthrough is immunotherapy — a method that activates the patient's own immune system to fight malignant cells.

Immunotherapy approaches are based on the immune system's ability to recognize and destroy cancer cells. They use drugs that block the proteins that act as brakes on the immune response (for example, PD-1, PD-L1, CTLA-4), allowing immune cells to work more actively.

At the Sumy Regional Clinical Oncology Center, we are introducing modern cancer treatments, including immunotherapy, as part of a personalized approach to each patient. Depending on the stage of the disease, this method can be effective both as the main treatment and in combination with surgery or radiation therapy.

Key benefits of immunotherapy:

⏺️ targeted action on cancer cells;

⏺️ fewer side effects compared with chemotherapy;

⏺️ the potential for long-term disease control even after treatment ends.

If melanoma is detected, it is important not to delay the start of treatment. Consultations with an oncologist and the modern diagnostic methods available at our center make it possible to choose the best treatment plan for each patient.

Remember: the earlier the disease is detected, the more effective the treatment will be 💙
