🔬 Breast cancer is not just about treatment — it is also about a new way of seeing yourself. Just 20 years ago, the standard of treatment was aggressive surgery — a mastectomy removing the entire breast and the lymph nodes, often without reconstruction. A woman’s quality of life came second.
Today our priorities are different: oncology is about preservation, prognosis and self-acceptance. It is about an individual approach, a multidisciplinary team and decisions that take into account not only medical indications but also the patient’s inner state.
We recently operated on a young woman diagnosed with breast cancer and a confirmed BRCA1 mutation — a genetic feature that significantly increases the risk of developing both primary and secondary cancer.
In view of this, the decision was made to perform:
🔹 Subcutaneous mastectomy of the affected breast with sentinel lymph node biopsy,
🔹 Prophylactic mastectomy of the healthy breast,
🔹 Immediate reconstruction of both breasts with implants.
💡 What this means in practice:
- Prophylactic removal of the healthy breast significantly reduces the risk of cancer in the future — it is a strategy of staying one step ahead.
- Sentinel lymph node biopsy makes it possible to assess the oncological status of the lymphatic system with minimal surgical intervention.
This helps avoid removing all the lymph nodes and prevents complications such as lymphedema, pain, numbness or reduced arm mobility.
- The Oncology Center has a modern histology laboratory that allows intraoperative checks of clear resection margins and assessment of lymph node involvement while the operation is still under way. This is critically important for the safety and effectiveness of treatment.
- Plastic surgery is performed by the center’s breast surgical oncologists. We also work with leading plastic surgeons and have already achieved excellent aesthetic results without compromising oncological safety.
🌸 This is a story not only about illness. It is a story about choice, confidence and a new quality of life. Today we do not simply treat cancer — we help a woman look at herself with tenderness and acceptance again.
