From 1 January 2025, Ukraine is introducing an updated system for assessing a person’s functioning to establish disability status.
Cancer is one of the most common reasons for applying for disability status. From now on, the procedure is more transparent and convenient for patients thanks to changes in how assessments are carried out by expert teams (EK).
Key changes:
1️⃣ Assessment of functioning. Disability will now be determined not only on the basis of medical indicators but also by assessing a person’s ability to manage daily activities, take part in social life and work.
2️⃣ Expert teams. Assessments will be carried out by expert teams for assessing a person’s daily functioning (EKOPFO), which include specialists from various fields.
3️⃣ Remote assessment. Patients in a serious condition can be assessed remotely or wherever they are staying.
4️⃣ Transparency and accessibility. The procedure will become more transparent and less bureaucratic, making it easier for patients to obtain disability status.
What does this mean for cancer patients?
Patients with cancer will be able to obtain disability status through a simplified procedure that takes into account their actual condition and needs. This will provide faster access to the social support and rehabilitation services they need.
How can you prepare for the changes?
1️⃣ Talk to your doctor. Discuss the new procedure with your doctor and find out how it will affect you.
2️⃣ Gather your documents. Prepare the necessary medical documents confirming your state of health.
