Lung cancer prevention

Many people think that lung cancer threatens only smokers. In fact, the risk also increases because of other factors:

🔹 Passive smoking – regularly inhaling other people’s tobacco smoke. If people often smoke near you, your lungs suffer too.

🔹 Polluted air – smog, dust and industrial emissions that we breathe in cities or near hazardous industries. Constantly living with dirty air can damage the lungs.

🔹 Harmful substances at work – contact with carcinogens in some industries increases the likelihood of lung cancer.

🔹 Genetic predisposition – lung cancer in the family. If your family has had such cases, pay particular attention to the health of your lungs.

Almost no one is 100% protected: even people without harmful habits can get sick. But by minimizing exposure to risk factors, you can significantly reduce the likelihood of the disease.

Following simple rules helps keep your lungs healthy:

🔸 Quit smoking — within a day of the last cigarette, the body clears most of the nicotine, and after a few months the lungs work much better. Every year without cigarettes lowers the risk of cancer.

🔸 Avoid passive smoking — agree on a “no smoke” rule at home and in the car to protect yourself and your loved ones.

🔸 Breathe clean air — spend more time outdoors, air out rooms and do wet cleaning.

🔸 Protect yourself from harmful substances — follow safety rules at work and use masks and ventilation.

🔸 Lead a healthy lifestyle — a balanced diet, physical activity and good sleep strengthen immunity and make the body more resistant to disease.

🔸 Have regular checkups — an annual fluorography or chest X-ray helps detect changes in time. If you are in a risk group, talk to your doctor about lung screening.

Lung cancer is insidious: in the early stages it often has no symptoms. According to statistics, about 70% of patients seek help when the disease is already advanced.

👉 Early detection increases the chances of successful treatment and a long life several times over.
