The Sumy Regional Clinical Oncology Center has performed its first laparoscopic gastric resection in a female patient with a malignant tumor. This operation was a landmark event for the center and the region, made possible by modern technology and the advanced training of our doctors.
Before the operation, the surgical team trained at the National Cancer Institute of Ukraine (NCI). We are especially grateful to Yurii Kondratskyi, head of the department of gastric and esophageal tumors at the NCI, for his support, the experience he shared and his professional advice.
Stomach cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Every year it claims thousands of lives, but early diagnosis significantly increases the chances of successful treatment. Symptoms you should not ignore:
- frequent pain in the upper abdomen;
- nausea or vomiting;
- loss of appetite and significant weight loss;
- a feeling of heaviness after eating.
