August is Lung Cancer Awareness Month 🫁
Lung cancer remains one of the most common cancers worldwide and in Ukraine. Every year, thousands of patients receive this diagnosis, and the main challenge is that in its early stages the disease often causes no obvious symptoms. That is why greater awareness and seeing a doctor in time can save lives.
The main risk factor is smoking, but secondhand smoke, long-term exposure to occupational hazards, air pollution and family history also pose a risk.
Symptoms to know
🔹 a persistent cough that does not go away
🔹 blood in the sputum
🔹 shortness of breath or chest pain
🔹 unexplained weight loss and weakness
If you have any of these symptoms, it is important to see a doctor and get checked.
Quitting smoking, regular checkups and, when needed, low-dose computed tomography of the lungs are the most effective steps to reduce the risk and detect lung cancer early.
The Sumy Regional Clinical Oncology Center urges residents of the region to take care of their health, not to ignore symptoms and to have regular preventive checkups. Early diagnosis is the key to successful treatment.
