30 July – World Day against Trafficking in Persons!

Human trafficking is an illegal transaction in which a person is the object, as well as the recruitment, transportation, harboring, transfer or receipt of a person for the purpose of exploitation, including sexual exploitation, by means of deception, fraud, blackmail, taking advantage of a person's vulnerable position, the use or threat of violence, abuse of official position, or material or other dependence on another person. Under the Criminal Code of Ukraine, these acts are crimes.

This day was established in 2013 by the United Nations General Assembly to raise public awareness of the global problem of human trafficking, to draw attention to the plight of women, men and children who have become victims of this crime, and to encourage people to actively help victims and counter human trafficking.

Human trafficking remains a problem today. The difficult economic situation in Ukraine, high unemployment, imperfect legislation and people's lack of legal awareness are the main conditions that contribute to it. People are exploited in many different ways.

To avoid trouble in the future and not to fall into slavery, you need to know your rights!

Remember: anyone can become a victim of human trafficking, regardless of gender, age, education or qualifications! Every victim has the right to help!

If necessary, you can call the National Hotline for Countering Human Trafficking and Migrant Counseling at 527 or 0 800 505 501.
