Gynecologic oncology department

The department was founded on 1 September 1966

Over the years, the department has been headed by such well-known gynecologists as Halyna Soroka, Heorhii Sumtsov, Alla Liulko and Serhii Shkurko.

The department team consists of 26 staff members: 6 doctors (3 with the highest qualification category, 2 with the first and 1 with the second), 10 nurses and 10 nursing assistants.

The department provides both surgical and chemotherapy care to gynecologic oncology patients. Consultations are also held regularly in two rooms of the outpatient follow-up department, one of which specializes in cervical pathology.

The center’s gynecologic oncology department performs about 800 operations a year.

Our department performs operations of varying complexity using laparotomic, laparoscopic and vaginal approaches.

We were the first in the region to perform radical laparoscopic operations with lymph node dissection for cervical and endometrial cancer.

In recent years, we have been actively performing reconstructive operations for female genital prolapse.

The center’s gynecologic oncology department also operates on patients with precancerous conditions of the cervix, uterine body and external genitalia, using organ-preserving methods.

Thanks to the use of minimally invasive technologies in the department, the average length of stay is 5 days, and 50% of all operations are performed laparoscopically.

Cytoreductive surgery for malignant ovarian tumors is now being widely introduced into practice with the involvement of specialists from the National Cancer Institute of Ukraine. The aim of this cooperation is the subsequent certification of the gynecologic oncology department according to the standards of care of the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO)
